Micro Jigging City Structure

Micro Jigging City Structure

If you live in a city or town on the water, there is likely to be a range of structure near the shore that you can fish with lures to target a variety of demersal species like Bream and Flathead.

Most anglers would be tempted to cast soft plastics or small vibes, however from shore, casting a long way and fishing deep can be a challenge.

Here I recommend using the 7g medium slug (colour not being important), paired with a 2-4kg rod, and 6-10lb line. The weight of the lures should allow reassonably accurate casts and the ability to reach poles that are a little further away from the shore.

You should attempt to cast up close to the poles of the marina while avoiding boats and ropes that will snag you up.

When the lure lands in the water, leave the bail arm open, which allows the jig to sink vertically to the bottom. When you have seen the line stop moving you can start a slow retrieve with plenty of pauses. While paused, watch the line to see if any fish are picking at the motionless lure. If there are fish around, you should be onto one in no time.

See the short video below to demonstrate the speed required on an unexpected fish!
